The Corinthians had become followers of men, and needed to repent of their personality cults and view ministry properly. Before Paul could correct their sectarianism he had to address the root cause of their worldliness, arrogance, and immaturity.
In 1 Corinthians 2, Paul taught them that true wisdom was based on Jesus Christ and Him crucified. The last verse 16 of that chapter 2, is what should have governed their thinking. They needed “the mind of Christ.” (1 Cor 2:16). They lived like many Christians today, they were worldly, they were impressed with human reasoning, and the wisdom of men. They needed to organize the church and their lives, based on the God’s wisdom as revealed in scripture. The True Foundation of the church is Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. ( NAS)
